Fishing

The area provides excellent Salmon and Trout fishing for both beginners and those that are advanced. A number of the rivers have available rods and these will be organised by your guide. Guide's know the conditions and where the best runs of fish can be found on particular rivers at different times of year. Please make your fishing bookings with us well in advance.

As for those that like boat fishing, the key to fishing any of the different styles lies in the confidence of the ghille knowing the water and following his hunch based on many years of experience. The Duck fly (March-April) and the May fly fishing is relatively straight forward because you can see the fish breaking the surface. Stalking the large wild trout in the evenings with a dry fly is also great fun!

Rods and lines are all of personal preference but the most effective rod for a boat is a 10'6" coupled with an 8'6" or 9' for the dry fly. Most of the main manufacturers no longer make 10'6" rods so a 10ft will do for the wet fly fishing. Best line is a floater for your rod, if not then an intermediate line will suffice.

Rods and lines for Salmon fishing on the rivers are best covered with 13ft or perhaps a 15ft if there is a falling spate on one of the bigger rivers such as the Moy.

Our fishing is mainly concentrated within one hour's drive of the Lodge – if you have breakfast at 8am, you can expect to be on the river by 9.30am. However Lough Corrib is at the bottom of the drive!
